Kirk & Hannah - A Look Back
This is a really special blog post for me. Next week, two very dear friends of mine are saying “I do” and I had the honor of capturing the sweet season of engagement in their lives last fall. At this time next week, I will be in Kansas, celebrating with them (slightly BEYOND excited!!!). I started to get teary-eyed looking through these photos again, thinking about how far God has brought them and how grateful I am to be part of this season. But before I get any more sappy (which will happen if I keep going!!) let’s take a minute to look back on their story...
You could say that Kirk and Hannah are high school sweethearts - meaning they liked each other in high school - but nothing truly started between them until their freshman year of college at Kansas State University! It was just a few months after they started dating that I attended the same church conference as them - and through the grapevine I heard that Kirk had a GIRL!! He and I had been friends for several years, so I HAD to meet this girl to make sure she was good enough for him. Well…the fact that I now have the blessing of calling Hannah one of my very best friends speaks for itself. I found an amazing gift in her and had no idea that her friendship would become one of the greatest joys and encouragements in my life. So Kirk had my blessing :)
From the beginning, they wanted to be sure that Christ was the center of their relationship. So a lot of their dates looked like doing Bible studies, cooking meals for people, babysitting for families in their church, and going on short-term missions trips together. One of their most memorable dates was eating Subway in a tree - yes, you read that right, a TREE!!
During the fall of 2018, it was time to pop the question! Kirk was sure to ask Hannah’s dad’s blessing and then he bought the ring - the very NEXT DAY! How sweet is that?! Clearly, he was only a TAD excited :) He then invited Hannah, along with both of their sisters, on a scavenger hunt! Hannah didn’t suspect too much because they had done activities like this together before. After completing a list of clues and traveling all over campus to find them, Hannah reached a clue that said for the next destination, she had to be blindfolded. Kirk gently led her by the hand until they reached a bridge over a small stream (with their sisters a short distance away, cameras ready!). Hannah took her blindfold off and Kirk was on one knee. She says all she can remember is the joy. They were finally here!
Taking these photos for them was such a blessing to me. I’ve watched them journey through their relationship with its struggles and its joys, and now they’ve reached their wedding day! It feels surreal. These pictures speak volumes of the faithfulness of God and of the love that Kirk and Hannah share through Christ. God has been so faithful to them and they are the first to testify to that. I can’t wait to see where God will take them next and I am honored to have been part of this special season.
Congratulations to the new (almost!) Mr. and Mrs. Stewart!!
