Joy & Love
“Every time that I think I could not be happier for you, something else happens in your life to remind me how blessed I am...I love you very much and today I have so many emotions - joy, excitement, gratitude, love.” These precious words were from Nick’s mom as she spoke to Melissa and Nick at their reception. And I start their blog with them because they describe what their day was truly about - joy, excitement, gratitude, love.
Melissa and Nick met at the beginning of their freshman year of college - and Nick mentioned in his wedding vows that it was love at first sight! It only took him until spring break to ask Melissa to be his girlfriend and their relationship continued to grow! Over the 6 years they’ve been together, they’ve shared so many adventures together from their first date in Presque Isle, to a vacation to Disney World with their families. All of this led up to their most memorable trip - a vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado where Nick proposed on a ski lift in the mountains. Incredible!
There were so many special details of Melissa and Nick’s wedding day at The Gathering Place that helped to share their story. Clearly from just reading Nick’s mom’s words above, they made sure that the people they love were a central part of it! There were many more heartfelt speeches from their friends and family - including from a friend who was not able to be there. Nick read a letter that one of his best friends, who is in the military, had written to him, talking about the memories they shared and how he was still celebrating with them even from miles away. Their card box was handmade by Melissa’s dad, who crafted it to replicate a shadow box that was made years ago by her grandfather. Even their dog Lucy made her debut as part of their cake topper (actually, cheesecake topper!!) and Nick wore socks with bulldogs on them to help make her part of the day! How fun is that?! As if the day couldn’t have gotten any better, Melissa and Nick’s slow first dance turned into a choreographed dance that they had put together to surprise their family and friends!
Melissa and Nick’s wedding day ended with a sweet moment for just the two of them. One of their requests before their wedding was to have not just a first kiss but a last kiss. I had never heard of this before! So they explained that they simply wanted a moment to take it all in - to step away from the music and the party and simply be together - to remember why they were really there. As Nick’s mom said, it truly was a day of joy and love. And I can’t wait to see Melissa and Nick carry that same joy and love into their new life together!
