The Heart of the Wedding Day
I’ll be honest...a styled shoot sounded crazy! Plan a mini wedding? Organize a dream team of vendors? Not for me! As crazy as the idea seemed at the time, this summer I noticed that God was bringing various vendors into my life as we worked together or met to talk in local coffee shops. Relationships started. Friendships formed. I began to increasingly admire the amazing community around me and develop a desire to show off these talented vendors who had become friends. So planning began!
But I wanted this shoot to be different. My desire was not exactly to showcase the latest and greatest wedding trends or simply the gorgeous colors of the season. It was to put on display the love, joy, and commitment - the heart - behind the wedding day, and the special details that make it happen. This is the first day - the first day of the rest of your life with your best friend! That love and joy was designed by God to last a lifetime, reaching far beyond the wedding day. That’s what this shoot was all about! But if this was a styled shoot, how would that really come to life?
Our models, Abbey and Mickey - who met their freshman year at Pitt and have been together ever since! - were amazing in making this desire a reality. These two were married this past July and their newlywed love shone through each photo. It was genuine and real. While this shoot might not have been their real wedding day, it gave them the opportunity to relive it! Abbey even got to wear her very own wedding dress! It was like experiencing the priceless moments of their own wedding day all over again - the exchanging of love letters, which exclaim of the excitement of the day to come with every line; the first look (or in their case, second first look!) where your groom can’t keep that smile off his face; the vows of lifelong commitment; the love of a bride and groom, designed to be a picture of the love of Jesus Christ.
Clearly, all the details of the wedding day point to a greater purpose. The venue, the flowers, the table settings, the photos, are all meant to be part of creating a celebration that reminds you of why you are really there: the love, the joy, the promises. And that’s the heart of the wedding day!
